How to create a modern glossy button using photoshop

This tutorial is not aimed at pure beginners, you must have at least intermediate knowledge of Photoshop before you proceed. Many beginner designers attempt to create the famous “glossy look”, but the result is typically lacking and you can’t quite put your finger on what it is. There are many good glossy styles out there, but i’m here to share my own. Its hard to realize that your glossy lacks until you compare to something that looks finished and polished.

Creating a neat gear icon using Illustrator

1. Using the Ellipse Tool (L), draw a perfect circle, hold the shift key while drawing to constrain proportions

2. Using the star tool, draw over the circle, while drawing do not release the mouse just yet, use the [up/down] arrow keys to adjust amount of angles, without releasing the mouse hold ctrl (command key on mac) while dragging [inn/out] to [contract/extract] the outer part of the star. Wifi, powerline adapters or a long cable?

Moving to a new apartment or home is always exciting, the last thing you want to find out is that the extra bedroom you intended to use as an office space does not have a cable outlet. This is exactly what happened to my wife and I in our new apartment.

Three solutions to this problem

  • Long coax or ethernet cable (best option, if possible)
  • Powerline adapter kit
